Are you intending to start learning how to drive? The best way of doing this is to contact your nearest professional driving school.
Learning to drive
To be permitted to practise driving, whether at a driving school or as a private learner, you need a valid provisional driving licence. This applies irrespective of licence category.
Learner drivers must be supervised by a person who is an accustomed and competent driver for the appropriate category of vehicle. The person supervising the driving must sit beside the learner in the vehicle. The supervision may be conducted only by:
-
A professional driving school teacher or trained instructor when learning to drive at a driving school.
-
Someone who is at least 24 years old and has held a driving licence for the appropriate category of vehicle for at least the past five consecutive years, and who has been approved as an instructor for the designated learner driver (when learning to drive with a private instructor). See further private learner driving practice.
You may not practice driving until you have been issued a learner licence.
Your instructor must always carry his/her certificate of approval as an instructor during private learner driving practice.
On the rear of the vehicle one of the two following signs must be displayed to indicate its use:
The Driving Licence Test
The driving licence test is taken at Trafikverket (The Swedish Transport Administration).
The theory and practical driving licence tests for passenger cars (Category B) will be regarded as a combined test. You will take both tests close together, either on the same day or within two weeks of each other. A combined test means that you will book appointments for both tests at the same time.
The combined Category B driving licence test works as follows:
-
You must first take the theory test.
-
The practical driving licence test must then be taken irrespective of the results obtained in the theory test.
-
Once a theory or practical test has been passed it is valid for two months.
-
Both tests must be passed within a two-month period or else you have to book new appointments for both tests and the fees must be paid again.
If you are being trained at a training school you can book through the school. First-time test takers have priority.
Come well prepared! This will increase your chances of passing your driving licence test.
